About the Artists: Benjamin Sung (Violin) Dr. Benjamin Sung is an Associate Professor of Violin at Florida State University and serves as a Faculty Artist and Violin Coordinator at the Brevard Music Center, where he is Concertmaster of the Brevard Opera Orchestra. His distinguished career includes performances as a soloist with orchestras such as the Camerata Romeu of Havana, the Virtuosi of Festival Internacional de Música in Brazil, and the National Repertory Orchestra. As a passionate advocate of contemporary music, Sung has collaborated with some of the most important composers of our time, including John Adams, Pierre Boulez, George Crumb, and Helmut Lachenmann. His latest album, FluxFlummoxed (Albany Records), was highly praised by Fanfare Magazine for its technical brilliance. His career highlights include a TED talk at TEDx Fargo, a complete Beethoven sonata cycle with pianist David Kalhous, and performances of Paganini’s 24 Caprices. David Kalhous (Piano) Renowned pianist David Kalhous has earned critical acclaim for his expansive repertoire and adventurous programming, spanning over three centuries of music. He has appeared as a soloist with the Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK, Prague Philharmonia, Israel Symphony Orchestra, and Moravian Philharmonic. His performances have graced stages at the Prague Spring Festival, Gilmore Keyboard Festival, Czech Philharmonic Chamber Music Series, and top concert venues in New York, Chicago, and Europe. As an advocate for new music, he frequently collaborates with contemporary composers, premiering and recording new works for piano. Kalhous studied at prestigious institutions including Hochschule für Musik in Vienna, Rubin Academy of Music in Tel-Aviv, and Yale University. He holds a DMA from Northwestern University, where he studied under Ursula Oppens. Dongryul Lee (Composer) Korean-born, Chicago-based Dongryul Lee (b. 1978) is a highly sought-after composer known for his ability to weave acoustical nuances with pathos and contemporary expressions. His music is influenced by literature, science, philosophy, and artificial intelligence, drawing from Borgesian poetics, Jungian philosophy, and number theory. His works have been performed by top ensembles such as Avanti!, MIVOS, New Earth, Callithumpian Consort, and the Illinois Modern Ensemble. Lee has received numerous accolades, including the Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship, Third Prize in the Bartók World Competition (Hungary, 2018), and Second Prize in the GMCL Competition (Portugal, 2017). He studied at the Eastman School of Music and holds advanced degrees from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
