Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), in collaboration with the City of Tallahassee and the Leon County Division of Tourism, will host one of the largest regional and cultural celebration in honor of Black History Month for the City of Tallahassee. The Harambee Festival, a free community-wide event that exemplifies the spirit of Harambee, a Swahili word meaning “let’s pull together!” The festival will attract more than 6,00 patrons, students, and alumni to the North Florida and South Georgia regions. The festival will be held on Saturday, February 28, from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. at the Will Packer Performing Arts Amphitheater.

The festival’s theme, “Inspiring Unity in the Community,” captures the essence of Florida A&M University’s efforts to enhance the student experience through community engagement. The FAMU Harambee Festival helps to inspire, educate, and heal our community by honoring and educating the public on the dynamic contributions of African Americans throughout history. This year, the festival will offer a plethora of exciting entertainment, including live musical performances, cultural art, and more. Patrons will continue to enjoy inspiring seminars, health screenings. The University’s colleges and schools will be on hand to showcase the programs that the University has to offer.

This year, we will continue to align with the University’s Strategic Plan, including community engagement, and the festival will enhance the brand of the University’s motto: “Excellence with Caring.”
