The Florida State University College of Music presents a special concert by the University Philharmonia celebrating 25 years of music-making. The performance will take place on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. in Opperman Music Hall. Led by its founding Music Director and Conductor, Alexander Jiménez, the orchestra marks 25 completed years with a program that features the same works as its inaugural concert on October 5, 2000. Concert Program: Johannes Brahms: Academic Festival Overture, Op. 80 Franz Schubert: Symphony No. 5 in B-flat, D. 485 Conducted by Guilherme Leal Rodrigues, Graduate Associate Conductor Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Capriccio Italien, Op. 45 The FSU Philharmonia (UPO) was established to give freshman and sophomore string players an ensemble in which to develop their skills and take on leadership roles. Since its first concert, the UPO has garnered a large and loyal following with its performances in its "home" hall, Opperman Music Hall. The orchestra has a rich history of special performances, including tours, accompanying faculty and student soloists, and performing world premieres. Join us for an evening celebrating the significant and cherished history of these excellent young musicians.
