On the first Thursday of every month during the academic year, the Center for Music of the Americas presents our Music of the Spheres concert series in partnership with Blue Tavern, Midtown Tallahassee's favorite neighborhood joint. For the final concert of 2024, we're delighted to welcome back Isa y El Combo Machete, a Tally-based ensemble specializing in social dance music from across Hispanophone Latin America featuring Isabel Ruano on guitar and vocals, FSU Musicology alum Seth Hull on guitars and vocals, Jack Straub on bass, Reo Morris on drums, and José Reyes on percussion. They'll present a high-energy program of cumbias, chichas, villancicos navideños (Christmas carols), Mexican sones, songs and dances from the Andes, and more. A perfect way to welcome the cold North Florida winter nights! As always, cover charge is a nominal $5, and Blue Tavern will be serving its justifiably renowned filé gumbo, red beans and rice, sandwiches (including vegetarian and vegan options) and a variety of beer, wine, coffee, tea, and soft drinks. Hope to see you there!
