Join us as we continue the celebration of 125 years of music at FSU with a program honoring two milestone moments in our College of Music’s history. ✨This year, 2025, celebrates the diamond anniversary of the 1950 performance of Dohnányi’s Sextet in C Major, Op. 37, featuring the longtime FSU faculty member Ernst von Dohnányi himself at the piano. The second work on the program reflects on the landmark 1979 residency of renowned American composer, Aaron Copland. The final day of this residency culminated in a stirring performance of his evocative and moving tone poem, Appalachian Spring, by the University Symphony Orchestra, Maestro Copland conducting. To honor this event, the second half of the program will feature the original 13-instrument chamber version of Appalachian Spring, drawn from the ballet of the same name.
