The Free Jazz Thursday (FJT) Trio of Longineu Parsons, Michael Bakan, and Brian Hall continue their popular series RHJaM -- Reinterpretations of Historic Jazz Masterworks -- with a performance of free-improvisatory explorations of the music of John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie. Expect fresh takes on Diz classics like "A Night in Tunisia" and "Manteca," highlighting strong infusions of Afro-Cuban and West African-derived grooves. The first set, from 8-9, will feature Longineu & Co. playing on their own; the second set, from 9-10, will be open to guest musicians for a Diz-inspired jam session.
